Today is Thanksgiving. Yes, it's a holiday celebrated in the Un-U.S. of A., but why is this one any more significant than others? I finally get to spend more than a couple hours playing my PS3!!
Here's a quick look at what I had to go through to get my PS3 home:
I waited for over 2 days in line. I knew the PS3's anticipation had surpassed even the PS2's and that it would be historic for the video game industry, but I didn't think I'd have to line up so early. All because of the first guy in line who lined up at 6am on November 14th! I couldn't be mad at him though, He was so damn hot, and he spent most of the time with his shirt off. Woof!! You kinda see him in this first pic. I need to be punished for not getting a better shot. Guess I had PS3 on the brain.
This was one of the cute guys who was my camping buddy. His way of passing time was to sleep until the PS3 came out. He did a very good job at it too. heh heh
The folks at BestBuy were nice enough to let us use their restroom during their hours up operation. This particular location was to receive a minimmum of 200 PS3's. More than most stores because this was also the location of one of the official Launch Day block parties.
Some folks brought in umbrellas and setup tents to sheild themselves from the daytime heat and the cooler evenings.
For the big day, Sony had quite a setup, but the best stuff was only accessible to celebrities and anyone lucky enough to be on the VIP list. I think at least those of us who'd camped out should have got an invite.
Of course, it was a media frenzy. Everyone wanted to interview us, some even had trouble getting us to interview or just be on camera. We were just tired, and there was always a reporter there. It just got old at some point, but the final day was cool. I ended up on national broadcast unintentionally a few times. Actually, if you were watching Fox News' coverage, I believe I did participate in an interview for them, as well as GameDaily!

Ok, now I'd been outside for so long, of course the first thing I did was take a shower. And I was naturally tired, AND I still had to get up the next morning for work. So I decided to just throw on my favorite robe and didn't care how the pictures Seth was taking turned out. heh heh
I wonder if this free Taledega Nights Blu-ray movie has
the steamy scenes of Mr. Riley that were omitted from the theatrical version.
Ever hold a beautiful new born baby that just stares attentively at you and doesn't ever cry. Yeah, it's like that.
Back to present day. My assessment of the PS3:
Is it a great system and worth the price?
Yes, definantly.
Is it everything I expected it to be?
Definantly Not.
Just as with all generations of gaming, you can't compare the games of the PS3 to the games of the Xbox360 or the Wii and make a definitive judgement on which console will rule in the years to come. I have my predictions, but it's a fact that you won't see the PS3 or 360 or Wii being used to it's full potential until a year or two has gone by and the game developers have really begun to learn the hardware. That's what it comes down to, not processing power, but how clever and unique the developers are. Technically, the PS3 is more advanced, but the Xbox was technically more advanced than the PS2 and the PS2 still came out on top because they have better games, in abundance, thanks to the developers.
All three companies in the next-gen biz have been major contributors to the standards of our gaming experience today. Thanks to Playstation, consoles now must be capable of playing cd's and dvd's to be a serious addition to a media center; controllers of other consoles feel familiar since they've modeled after Sony's (accept Nintendo, of course); and all consoles now either lay flat or sit on end. Thanks to Microsoft, we know what a user-based experience is like and gaming is even more fun. Thanks to Nintendo, other companies now have to literally think outside the box. The list goes on and on..
Overall, it was a crazy experience. I don't think I'll ever do that again. My the next generation, I expect that every company will have enough products to go around. I'm just glad I can say that I got mine at launch.
